Adding Value and Appeal To Your Outdoor Space

Outdoor spaces have become much more important to buyers in recent years especially since the pandemic has changed how people vacation. Families are also spending more time at home than they used to. Having a great backyard expands the homes usable square footage and adds an additional “living room” or “play room” if the yard is designed well.

Some of the most valued landscape features for people buying, selling or just improving their backyard for their own use, are outdoor kitchens, fire pits, waterfalls, Koi ponds and vegetable garden areas.

Outdoor kitchens have been popular for many years but especially during the pandemic with all the restrictions that kept people from going to restaurants or attending family events in a public space. There are many different types of outdoor kitchens from grilling areas, to pizza ovens and more. One of the best parts about installing an outdoor kitchen space in addition to having a perfect entertaining area is that a great backyard kitchen is still fairly unique in our area of the country and therefore will stand out as a huge plus when you do decide to sell. You will most likely have something that competing houses in the area don’t have.

If you are looking for a peaceful backyard to relax in, consider installing a waterfall or koi pond. Water features add a relaxing element and tranquility that a pool or outdoor kitchen does not. Imagine reading a book next to a trickling waterfall while the fish swim around beautiful water lilies. These ponds can be lower maintenance that most people think and add a beautiful focal point to any backyard.

One of the most popular additions to backyard living in the past few years especially since Covid 19 started is a garden area. More and more people want to grow their own food. This is a popular trend now that people are staying home more and have the time to put into gardening. Homeowners enjoy having fresh, organic produce and herbs available right outside their back door.

Outdoor living spaces are no longer only for summer enjoyment. Extend your season by adding outdoor heaters, fireplaces, and fire pits to your backyard. If you are looking for something that doesn’t take up too much space, is fairly inexpensive and easy to install yourself, consider adding a firepit. Combined with attractive outdoor furniture, a firepit is a nice addition to any backyard. People can practically smell the smores when seeing a firepit and it adds the heating element needed on the cool fall evenings. Adding elements to your backyard add value to those thinking of buying your home.
